Ear Suction Procedure
Micro-suction Ear Wax Removal
Herdsman Medical Centre doctors are trained to perform the ear wax removal by microscope and microsuction. Ear wax may be considered for removal if its is causing symptoms of reduced hearing, tinnitus, pain, vertigo or interfering with hearing aid to a patient.
Microscope with microsuction is the way forward in the treatment of ear conditions requiring wax removal, where previously an ear syringe was used. During ear syringing, wax is flushed out ‘blindly’ under a pressurised stream of water and 1 in 1000 patients experience major complications. With microsuction the wax is directly visualised under a microscope whilst being removed and no water is involved.
Removal of ear wax with microscope and microsuction is preferred to ear syringing because it is:
- Quicker and more precise
- Gentle on the ear canal and more comfortable for the patient
- Safer with lower risk of infection and a lower risk of damaging the ear drum, middle ear and inner ear structure
Covid 19 Vaccinations
Herdsman Medical Centre offers Covid 19 Vaccinations as part of the national rollout program. Call our friendly Reception team to book an appointment for the Novavax or Pfizer vaccine.

Appointments
Please note: ALL new patients are required to arrive 10-15 minutes before their scheduled appointment time to fill out a new patient details form and/or any other relevant forms that are required before being seen by a doctor.
You can book an appointment with us through either our friendly reception staff over the phone or directly online through the Book Online button above. To ensure your do not forget your appointment, you will receive a text reminder or email depending on your method of booking.
At Herdsman Medical Centre we want to give you the time you need to deal with any issues comprehensively so please book a longer appointment if you have multiple issues to discuss or if the issue you have is complicated in nature.
On arrival at the practice, our reception staff will greet you and your doctor will be made aware of your attendance automatically. In a prompt and timely fashion you will be attended to by your doctor or one of our caring, experienced practice nurses depending on the nature of your appointment.
If you have had any tests or investigations done and would like your results, please call the surgery and our friendly staff will leave a message for our practice nurse to call you back when they have a free moment. Any urgent or abnormal results will be notified to you as soon as they come in. Sometimes our nurses can be very busy as they are usually very heavily booked so we ask for some patience in these circumstances.
If there are more delayed follow ups required we have a recall system in place where reminders can be automatically sent, for example one, two or four years in the future to your address registered on our system.
In having these processes in place, it is our goal to provide our patients with the best experience in family medical care from the time of booking to the time of leaving the practice and beyond.
We can accommodate urgent needs or walk-ins.

After Hours Care
Our surgery has a formal partnership with the WA Deputising Medical Service (WADMS), who is our primary provider for home visits and after hours care. If ringing after closing hours, our telephone message has information regarding after hours services nearby or after hours home visits. If a patient requires a home visit during normal surgery opening hours, our reception team will call WADMS on behalf of the patient to make arrangements for a doctor to see them. WADMS opens at 6pm to members of the public.
Your visit summary is always forwarded to the surgery at the completion of the visit. This will be added to your patient notes once your GP has reviewed it. If any necessary follow up is required, you will be contacted by the surgery.
